Every three and a half minutes, somebody in the EU dies from work-related causes. That's more than 150,000 deaths a year as a result of either work-related accidents (8,900) or occupational diseases (142,000).

The European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (OSHA) was set up by the European Union to help meet the information needs in the field of occupational safety and health. Based in Bilbao, Spain, the Agency aims to improve the lives of people at work by stimulating the flow of technical, scientific and economic information between all those involved in occupational safety and health issues.

Every year in the European Union there are 5,720 fatal work-related accidents and millions of people are injured or have their health seriously harmed in the workplace. Workers and employers need to be made aware of the risks that they face and how to manage them.
